For the third consecutive year, Mazda is getting behind Kiwi music by continuing its support for the 2009 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and as naming sponsor for the Mazda Best Female Solo Artist category.

“Mazda is a proud supporter of the arts in New Zealand and we are delighted to continue our association with these awards. It’s really fantastic to be part of such a great event and acknowledge our talented recording artists,” said Andrew Clearwater, managing director, Mazda New Zealand. “The competition for Mazda Best Female Solo Artist has been strongly contested over the past couple of years and based on this week’s announcement of the finalists the race for honours in 2009 is going to be no different”

As the official vehicle partner for the music awards, celebrities and artists will be driven from the official pre-awards Departure Party to the glitz and glamour of the red carpet in a fleet of new-generation Mazda vehicles. In addition, Mazda has supplied two new-generation Mazda3 promotional vehicles decked out from head to toe with stunning graphics of this year’s Mazda Best Female Solo Artist nominees – Boh Runga, Ladi 6 and Ladyhawke.

The finalists of the 2009 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards were announced this week at an event in Auckland. The awards will be held on October 8 at Vector Arena, Auckland.

While the industry is still experiencing challenging times, Mazda is staying ahead of the curve. 150 units of the new generation Mazda3 were sold in August which saw the car take fifth spot for the month in passenger vehicle sales, also extending its position as the fifth top selling model year to date.

“While it’s clear we have a long way to go in these uncertain times, we’re delighted with how the Mazda brand offering is continuing to win favour with buyers. Sales of the new Mazda3 have exceeded our expectations and the new range including the Mazda3 MPS is generating a lot of interest,” said Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director, Mazda New Zealand.

The Mazda6 and Mazda2 also featured in the top 15 selling models for the month taking 8th and 14th places respectively. A significant number of buyers also took up the “Mazda2 for 2” offer where a new Mazda2 can be purchased with a 30% deposit and the balance financed at 2% over three years. This offer will continue until 31 October 2009.
