Just weeks into its international launch and the new Kia Sorento is already being acclaimed as a worldwide success.

Demand for the all-new Sorento is running ahead of prediction in markets from Europe and Asia to the

Americas and even here in New Zealand and across the Tasman. And that’s in spite of a second Sorento

plant going into full production in Georgia, USA, where American media have taken to the vehicle as

‘one of their own’.

The main plant in Korea, which supplies markets outside the US and Canada, has been building the new

Sorento for several months and is already at full production, having met its assembly quality targets on

time.

“Based on what we knew about the new Sorento we anticipated even greater demand and are in daily

touch with the factory to find out when we can get more Sorento models for New Zealand,” says Todd

McDonald, General Manager of Kia Motors New Zealand.

“With substantial customer interest in the new Sorento R, it puts us in a very good position going into

2010, especially as economic trends indicate that the future outlook for growth is more positive.”

The new Sorento has been praised by critics around the world for its design, spaciousness, technology

and quality of build. The new, third generation R-series 2.2-litre common rail diesel engine is even being

talked up as a serious contender for the World Engine of the Year Awards.

Here in New Zealand the newcomer is dubbed the Sorento R to reflect the importance of the R-series

diesel engine, which is the only power plant available in this market. Apart from its huge reserves of

power and torque, the R-Series diesel engine makes the Sorento as economical as much smaller

vehicles.

On sale from just $46,990, the new Kia Sorento R offers a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed

automatic transmissions and all-but-one model offers the extremely versatile 7-seat configuration. Also

new to the Sorento R is a 4WD system that features Hill Start Assist and Downhill Descent, for safer

driving when off-road – a high tech feature seen in only the most sophisticated all-wheel-drive vehicles.

Every Sorento R comes with a full complement of safety features in New Zealand, including ESP

electronic stability programme), ABS anti lock brakes, brake assist, self-leveling HID headlights, anti rollover

protection and front side and curtain airbag.
