Citroen’s revolutionary new interpretation of the large car, the refined, luxurious, uniquely-styled and dramatic Citroen DS5, has been named “Family Car of the Year” by the leading UK magazine, Top Gear, in the publication’s annual automotive awards.
Set to arrive in New Zealand in the middle of 2012, the family-sized DS5, combines distinctive style with creative technology and takes design inspiration from the world of aviation, and it saw off tough competition from already established models to take the best family car title.
Top Gear magazine said; “DS5 is a well-grounded, slick, futuristic machine, both inside and out. The award means a second year of success for Citroën. In 2010, Citroën DS3 won both Top Gear magazine’s ‘Small Car of the Year’ and overall ‘Car of the Year’ accolades.

Fiat 500 Makes Its Hollywood Stage Debut
Comments OffThere was a whole new type of star on stage at this year’s American Music Awards® (The AMAs) when the Fiat 500 made its Hollywood stage debut at the Nokia Theatre performing alongside Jennifer Lopez during her live performance of her latest hit ‘Papi’ on Sunday (20 November 2011).
The Fiat 500 has already worked with Jennifer Lopez, including appearing in Lopez’s new music video for “Papi,” as well as in a 30-second trailer of the video. Lopez also appears in two additional commercials for Fiat broadcast in the USA, “My World” and “Elegance,” which feature the Fiat 500 Cabrio and the Fiat 500 by Gucci models.

Alfa Romeo To Produce 224kW 1.8Litre Engine
Comments OffJoining the 1.4 125 kW MultiAir and the 1.7 litre 173 kW TBi small capacity/high output engines already used in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Italian car maker has announced that it will launch a new 1.8 litre 224 kW engine in early 2013 which, says Alfa Romeo, will set new performance, economy and emissions standards.
Designed for both transverse and longitudinal applications, the new direct injection four cylinder engine will be compliant with future emissions standards in both Europe (Euro 6) and the U.S. (Tier 2 Bin 5) and will be used in both existing and future models.
Made entirely of aluminium, the engine will incorporate the most advanced technological content; including a 200-bar gasoline direct injection system, dual variable timing and a high-efficiency turbocharger.
The aluminium architecture, combined with the most innovative technologies, will offer power-to-weight ratio, fuel efficiency, acoustic/NVH comfort, and driving performance that are the very best in its category and characteristic of Alfa Romeo engines.
“This is an extremely important step for Alfa Romeo, as we continue to reposition our brand and prepare it for global distribution. The United States remains our primary objective as we prepare for a 2013 introduction of our models,” added Harald J. NZ4WD Magazine names Ranger Overall Winner of 2011
Comments OffNZ 4WD Magazine has named the new Ford Ranger the Overall NZ4WD of the Year 2011 along with Utility 4WD of the Year 2011. Sharing the glory is the Ford Territory with its win of the NZ4WD Medium Recreational 4WD of the Year 2011.
“Winning these awards, especially the overall Four Wheel Drive of the Year, is a tremendous achievement,” said Neale Hill, Managing Director, Ford New Zealand. “The guys at NZ4WD love the dirt and hills and put the vehicles through some very challenging tests. MAZDA BT-50 RECEIVES ANCAP 5-STAR RATING
Comments OffThe recently launched all-new BT-50 has been awarded an ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Programme) 5-star safety rating.
The rating applies to all BT-50 models sold in New Zealand. The vehicle scored a total of 34.72 points, receiving 15.72 out of 16 in the offset crash test, 16 out of 16 in the side impact crash test and a further two points in the pole test.
“Mazda is committed to engineering great driving vehicles that maximize the safety of their passengers,” says Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director of Mazda New Zealand.
