Mazda is excited to announce that the MAZDA RX-8 ‘SPIRIT R’ SPECIAL EDITION is now available in New Zealand.

In advance of Mazda RX-8 production ending in June 2012, SPIRIT R will be the final special edition model, offering a striking commemoration for Mazda’s iconic four door, four seater rotary engine sports car.

SPIRIT R is named after the final limited edition Mazda RX-7 and this pedigree is reflected in stylish features that include an exclusive Recaro seat design and custom 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Mazda RX-8 SPIRIT R has a 6-speed manual transmission with exclusive features such as Bilstein sports suspension, distinctive red front and rear brake callipers.

Exterior features include 225/40 R19 89W tyres and 19-inch alloy wheels finished in stunning bronze with black centre cap.Front, side and rear spoilers improve aerodynamics and add street appeal. Black bezels within front and rear combination lamps and front fog lamps bring the race car to the fore and a SPIRIT R badge on C-pillar seals it in the Mazda history books.

The SPIRIT R is a sports car that means business with custom designed interior fittings. Distinctive SPIRIT R Recaro bucket seats are trimmed with black and red leather for effect. In addition, contrast red stitching on the steering wheel, gear shift, parking brake and door trim, set this RX-8 apart from the rest.

The limited edition RX-8 is available in three exterior colour options, Aluminium Metallic, Sparkling Black Mica and Crystal White Pearl Mica.

This unique vehicle is available in very limited numbers and for the same price as the standard model at $56,695 plus on-road costs. 5 October 2010

Mazda unveiled the all-new BT-50 to the world this morning at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The Mazda BT-50 has been designed for those who lead busy and diverse lifestyles, signalling a new direction in the utility market. The BT-50 combines refined and expressive styling with outstanding environmental and safety performance along with dynamic driving performance.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director for Mazda New Zealand, says the BT-50 will extend the appeal of the utility vehicle from traditional business users to a wider range of customers, particularly those with active lifestyles.

“We expect the BT-50 to set a new standard in its segment when it launches here in late 2011. The vehicle will appeal to a wide range of New Zealand drivers as it blurs the lines between lifestyle and utility vehicle,” says Clearwater.

It’s the unique, expressive design of the BT-50 which gives it universal appeal. Mazda’s design team looked to push the boundaries of utility design with the BT-50 to deliver a vehicle which not only looks desirable but also is strong and dependable. The result is a design concept known as ‘Sophisticated Athlete’, with the BT-50 showcasing an athletic stance that, even when stationery, hints at its outstanding performance capabilities.

The exterior of the BT-50 features an athletic design with muscular flowing lines from the fenders along the sides of the vehicle and dynamic wedge-shaped proportions unlike any other utility.

Mazda’s new family face, the bold five-point grille, is further evolved on the BT-50 for a more imposing expression. The vehicle’s headlights feature the unique boomerang shape as seen on Mazda’s other models while the taillights are stretched horizontally, reaching around the corners and across the tailgate for a sporty rear view – a design first in the segment.

The interior features a more sporty and personal feel to complement the dynamic exterior image. The dashboard has an asymmetric design to create optimal space on each side of it as well as wrap around the driver to provide an open space for the passenger while supporting enthusiastic driving. The flowing interior design also connects the centre of the instrument panel to the raised centre console, a never before seen design in a pickup truck.

Four bold metallic panel strips on the door trim and sides of the centre console further express dynamism while a metallic outline highlights the two cylindrical meters and connects them via a centre strip to improve readability and enhance the sporty look of the instrument panel. The audio control panel and the climate control panels, which have independent driver and passenger-side temperature controls, complete the beautifully designed human interface.

“The BT-50’s size combined with the comfortable interior of a passenger vehicle makes it the ideal vehicle for people heading to the beach one weekend and down to the snow the next. The BT-50 is perfectly suited to deal with New Zealand’s diverse and contrasting landscape,” says Clearwater.

The current Mazda BT-50 was established as a one-tonne utility. It has won numerous awards and gained a strong following all over the world. With modern and refined styling both inside and out, the all-New Mazda BT-50 will raise the bar in the utility segment and for the first time provide a realistic alternative to the family wagon and 4×4 SUV.

Mazda New Zealand has notched up a new record, posting its highest ever market share for the month of May with 8.0 percent and achieving its strongest sales yet of the CX-7 crossover.

Mazda has sold 2,590 units in New Zealand so far in 2010, 9.4 percent ahead of the same period last year cementing the company’s fourth position in the market.

Leading the charge for the month was the CX-7 SUV crossover with a record 65 units sold. Mazda launched a new front wheel drive GSX variant of the popular crossover in April and it has proven to be extremely popular with New Zealand motorists, making up half of the May sales.

The Mazda3 and Mazda6 continue to remain popular choices also with both vehicles appearing in the Vehicle Industry Association’s Top 15 selling models for the year so far with fourth and seventh place respectively. The Mazda6 continues to lead the medium four cylinder segment since it was first launched in 2002.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director, Mazda New Zealand said the company is pleased with the 2010 results so far and is focused on maintaining momentum through the winter months starting with the launch of the revamped Mazda2 in June.

“The light vehicle segment has become increasingly competitive and although the Mazda2 has always performed well here, the 2010 model features a small number of mid-cycle enhancements which we believe will further strengthen its appeal,” said Clearwater.

Dubbed Mazda’s ‘Super Little Model’, the Mazda2’s most striking change will be the new front grille which follows the design cues of Mazda’s other second-generation vehicles. Sport models convey high performance with a fin-type grille and a jet-black finish, while Classic models adopt a body-coloured bar in the upper grille. Both variants also feature a newly-designed bumper with updated side intakes, and a wider lower-grille.

Inside, silver finishing has been applied to key contact areas including the parking brake button, inner door handles and air conditioning dials. Sport variants also now feature a premium solid black seat trim complemented by red pin-striping and piped-stitching.

Safety has been improved on the Classic model with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) becoming standard across both models.

Every new Mazda2 will come standard with mazdacare to ensure the vehicle continues to perform in optimum condition. mazdacare comprises Mazda Genuine Factory Warranty and Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance for a three year, unlimited kilometre period and Genuine Mazda Servicing for three years/100,000 km (whichever occurs first).

Available in nine exterior colours: Black Mica, Highlight Silver Metallic, Icy Blue Metallic, Spirited Green Metallic, Metropolitan Grey Mica, Aurora Blue Metallic, Cool White and firm order only Sparkling Gold Mica and Passion Orange Mica.

Two years after its debut, the second-generation Mazda6 is set to further extend the Zoom-Zoom ownership experience with even more driving enjoyment and packaging enhancement as well as improved environmental responsibility and safety performance.

Mazda’s globally acclaimed mid-size car has been refined and evolved and is being progressively introduced around the world, with initial release in Japan and Europe this month, with New Zealand and Australia launches a couple of months later.

Subtle enhancements to the winning formula of the Mazda6 mean a more refined yet sportier appearance with the continued fun-to-drive factor ingrained in Mazda’s vehicles.

“The Mazda6 has proven to be the medium sized vehicle of choice for Kiwi motorists, consistently leading its class,” said Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director, Mazda New Zealand. “The latest upgrades and new features are sure to strengthen the vehicle’s appeal even further and reinforce its credentials as the category benchmark.”

Exterior changes see the Mazda6 adopt the bold new Mazda family face with a redesigned five-point front grille with strong flowing lines and a centrally-positioned five-point lower grille.

Other design elements include new front and rear lamps, and chrome detailing for an enhanced sporty appearance.

Inside, new materials and surface treatments provide for a more refined cabin space. In response to growing demand for hands-free mobile phone connectivity, Bluetooth will be equipped as standard equipment on all models.

The Mazda6 also features retuned suspension and steering systems with a focus on responsiveness and improved ride comfort.

All models are equipped with Mazda’s single-nanocatalyst technology, which provides superb exhaust purification performance while reducing the amount of precious metals needed by over 70 percent.

The Mazda6 will be offered in three body styles, Sedan, Sport hatch and Wagon powered by 2.0L and 2.5L engines and a range of exterior colours including the new Clear Water Blue. Like all Mazda passenger cars, the Mazda6 comes standard with mazdacare which ensures the vehicle continues to perform in optimum condition and helps protect the outstanding resale value of the Mazda6. mazdacare comprises of a Mazda Genuine Factory Warranty and Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance for a 3 year, unlimited kilometre period and Genuine Mazda Servicing for 3 years/100,000 km (whichever occurs first).

Fresh look Mazda6

Fresh look Mazda6

Mazda knew it was onto a good thing with the CX-7 crossover and has further highlighted this by adding a new CX-7 front wheel drive variant to its model lineup. With a 2.5L engine, the new addition will deliver the fuel economy of a smaller vehicle while retaining the exhilarating driving performance of the CX-7.

The new model features outstanding styling, excellent fuel economy and responsive handling and performance in a GSX grade variant. The new model will sit alongside the 2.3L DISI All-Wheel Drive Limited model.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director, Mazda New Zealand says while the first CX-7 model was introduced to New Zealand in 2006 and has proven to be a popular choice, the new model will expand Mazda’s presence in the SUV category and engage new vehicle buyers.

“We are anticipating the CX-7 GSX will do very well. We recognise the diverse needs of Kiwi motorists and believe this car is the perfect compromise for those wanting the feel of a sports car and the versatility that is associated with an SUV,” says Clearwater.

The CX-7 GSX features the MZR 2.5L engine as seen in the award-winning Mazda6. The engine delivers maximum power of 120kW@6,000rpm and maximum torque of 205Nm@2,000rpm via a five-Stage Activematic transmission and front-wheel drive drive-train.

New Zealand motorists who have steered clear of SUVs because of the running costs find the new CX-7 an attractive proposition. The vehicle runs on 91 regular unleaded petrol and returns a combined average fuel economy of a Mazda6 GSX wagon at an impressive 9.4L/100km.

Like its Limited sibling, the 2.5L CX-7 is sure to turn heads. Dynamic styling sees the vehicle adopt the aggressive five-point grille seen on the Mazda3 and the current CX-7. Flowing lines running along the sides of the vehicle lead to stylish exterior mirrors with side indicator markers and 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/70 R17 Bridgestone tyres.

Inside, the CX-7 features high-quality black surface finishing across console areas while the seats and side door also feature a premium black cloth trim.

In-car entertainment is also a focal point with the audio configuration featuring a four-speaker CD autochanger and auxiliary (AUX) audio point for connecting portable MP3 players. The car also has a 4.1 inch Multi Information Display incorporating colour reversing camera display together with audio and maintenance information including fuel calculators and safety alerts.

While the 2.5L GSX omits some features available on the Limited model, it doesn’t skimp on safety with a full range of both active and passive safety features.

As well as large disc brakes, 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA); the new CX-7 features Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control as well as front, side and curtain airbags. Rear visibility is also enhanced with the addition of a reversing camera and in-dash colour display.

The CX-7 2.5L GSX will be available in a choice of six exterior colours – Stormy Blue Mica, Sparkling Black Mica, Aluminium Metallic, Copper Red Mica, Crystal White Pearl and Galaxy Grey Mica.

Every new CX-7 will come standard with mazdacare to ensure the vehicle continues to perform in optimum condition. mazdacare comprises of a Mazda Genuine Factory Warranty and Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance for a 3 year, unlimited kilometre period and Genuine Mazda Servicing for 3 years/100,000 km (whichever occurs first).
